Basics · New Player Briefing

Start Here

The mechanics, habits, and small efficiencies players usually wish they had learned earlier.

Last Z rewards timing, consistency, alliance participation, and concentrated progress. You do not need to memorize every system on day one. Start with the habits below and use the rest of the guide when you are ready to go deeper.

01
The mindset

How to Think About Last Z

Five principles explain a surprising amount of the game.

Timing matters.

The same upgrade can be worth far more when it also scores in an active event.

Idle time is lost progress.

Keep construction, research, training, and gathering working while you are away.

Your alliance is part of your account.

Help, rallies, territory, gifts, events, and activity all accelerate personal growth.

Save before you need it.

Gas, speedups, boxed RSS, recruitment items, and other limited resources are easier to spend than replace.

Power is not the whole story.

Research, troop quality, hero synergy, gear, timing, and efficiency matter more than chasing a number alone.

02
Core mechanics

Essential Mechanics

These are the little systems that often produce a big “I wish I knew that sooner.”

01
Alliance Efficiency

Batch Heal Instead of Waiting

Large hospital timers are often unnecessary. Heal in smaller batches and use Alliance Help repeatedly so active teammates can erase a large portion of the timer.

  • Use the Hospital troop slider instead of healing every wounded troop at once.
  • Aim for manageable batches — roughly 1–2 hours is a useful starting point.
  • Start the batch, request Alliance Help, then repeat when it finishes.
  • Watch Hospital capacity before PvP so wounded troops do not turn into permanent losses.
BEST PRACTICE The busier your alliance is, the smaller and faster your healing batches can be.

02
Troop Growth

Promote Before You Overtrain

Once promotion is unlocked, older troops can be upgraded into your highest available tier. This improves troops you already own instead of endlessly adding weaker units.

  • Unlock troop promotion through New Home research.
  • Open the correct Shooter, Rider, or Assaulter camp.
  • Select a lower troop tier and choose Promote.
  • Time large promotion sessions with troop-growth scoring when possible.
BEST PRACTICE Do not forget old low-tier troops sitting in your camps — they are progression you already paid for.

Choose Promote once the feature is unlocked.
03
Action Efficiency

Spend With a Purpose

Gas, speedups, recruitment, upgrades, and other limited actions become more valuable when they advance more than one objective at the same time.

  • Check active event scoring before claiming or completing a major action.
  • Use Gas where it advances daily rewards, event milestones, bosses, or seasonal objectives.
  • Avoid clearing every notification just because it is ready.
  • When practical, save high-value actions for the day they score.
BEST PRACTICE Before spending something limited, ask: what else does this action advance?
04
Map Movement

Use Fast Travel Inside Alliance Territory

Reinforcement movement can be dramatically faster than a normal march when both your Headquarters and destination are inside alliance-controlled territory.

  • Use a formation that is currently inside your Headquarters.
  • Choose Reinforce — not a normal March — to an allied HQ, city, or eligible structure near your destination.
  • After the formation arrives, continue from that location to the real target.
  • Use this for distant alliance activity, defense, treasures, and other time-sensitive movement.
BEST PRACTICE Both ends of the reinforcement route need to be inside your alliance territory for the shortcut to work.

Reinforce first to cross alliance territory quickly, then continue to the real target.
05
Quality of Life

Turn On Auto Return

For attack marches, Auto Return removes an unnecessary manual step and helps keep formations moving while you focus on something else.

  • Open the march panel before sending an attack.
  • Make sure Auto Return is enabled.
  • After combat, the formation will begin returning automatically.
  • Recheck the setting after changing devices or after major game updates.
BEST PRACTICE This is especially useful during repeated attacks when you are juggling several tasks at once.
03
Efficiency

Spend With Purpose

The goal is not to hoard forever. It is to make one action do more work whenever possible.

THE RULE

Make every action count.

Efficiency in Last Z is often less about doing more and more about timing the same action better.

BEFORE YOU TAP Run the 3-question check.
  1. Does it score now? Check Alliance Duel, Full Preparedness, seasonal milestones, and other active events.
  2. Does it unlock progress? If the action moves your next HQ, troop tier, research goal, or required upgrade forward, it has immediate value.
  3. Will waiting make it worth more? If there is no current benefit and no cap forcing you to spend, saving it can create a better opportunity later.
SPEND INTENTIONALLY Gas

Prioritize Radar, bosses, event objectives, seasonal milestones, and other attacks that return rewards or scoring.

STACK THE VALUE Speedups

Use large batches when construction, research, training, or promotion also advances an active scoring objective.

CLAIM WITH TIMING Recruitment & upgrades

A completed action does not always need to be claimed immediately. If it can wait safely, check the event calendar first.

EXAMPLE
One troop promotion can do three jobs.

It can strengthen your army, use a training/promotion queue efficiently, and score in a troop-growth event. The action did not change — the timing did.

Quick wins

Things Players Learn Too Late

Short habits that are easy to miss because the game rarely explains why they matter.

Keep long queues moving

Construction, research, training, and gathering should be working while you are offline whenever possible.

Read the scoring before claiming

Completed actions can sometimes wait. Check Alliance Duel, Full Preparedness, and other active events before collecting.

Match heroes and troop types

Troop-specific hero skills are strongest when the formation is built around the matching troop type.

Use Alliance Help constantly

Tap Help All whenever you log in. It costs nothing and reduces timers across the alliance.

Gather while you are away

Idle formations earn nothing. Send unused marches to gather before sleep, work, or any long break.

Protect your Hospital

A full Hospital can turn additional wounded troops into permanent losses. Check capacity before planned combat.
